About This Publication
Inner Compass Insight is a publication for anyone interested in thoughtful conversations about the people, systems, and lived realities that make up the mental health ecosystem. We bring together research summaries, expert commentary, and first-person accounts from contributors across a wide range of perspectives.
We believe that real progress means we address the benefits, real risks, and limitations of current approaches. Whether you’re questioning the system, navigating medications, experiencing difficult withdrawal, or seeking alternatives, we’re here for you.
Inner Compass Insight has calm, accessible information for you that is grounded in evidence and experience - without hype, oversimplification, or gatekeeping. We publish research summaries, expert editorials, personal essays, and open commentary from contributors who hold a wide range of views. This is a space for nuance, not an echo chamber.
Inner Compass Initiative is a nonprofit working to help people make informed choices about psychiatric drugs and to shift culture, science, and policy away from medicalized responses to human suffering. But the voices here extend well beyond ICI. We believe the most important conversations happen when people across the spectrum of experience and opinion are at the table.
What We Cover
In Your Own Words: First-person perspectives from people who have navigated psychiatric drugs, withdrawal, and the systems surrounding them.
Clear Evidence: Accessible accounts of new studies, systematic reviews, and emerging findings explaining what the evidence actually says, where the gaps are, and what it means in practice.
Community Commentary: Thoughtful expert and community voices tackling thorny questions around diagnosis, informed consent, psychiatric treatment, and the ethics of care.
Community Updates: What’s happening at the Inner Compass Initiative, plus our weekly roundup of notable debates, community conversations, and developments worth knowing about.
Not an Echo Chamber
We actively seek out contributors who hold different — sometimes opposing — views on psychiatry and reform. We want the comment section to be a place where the community genuinely grapples with hard questions. When interesting debates emerge, we’ll surface them.
If you have something to say, we want to hear from you.
